Process strategies for selective electron beam melting

Subproject B1 deals with the simulation of the powder recoating process for additive manufacturing. The focus here is the investigation of the recoating mechanism by means of realistic discrete element method (DEM) simulations considering the particle shape and the thermomechanical properties of the powder, as well as the influence of multiple recoated layers and molten region. The aim is to derive optimized time-sensitive recoating strategies and the study of alternative mechanisms that can be tested in practice to improve the quality of the manufactured component.
